ANTIFRAGIL / Blog

La Isleta is a neighborhood with many unoccupied, undefined and interstitial spaces. The project takes place in one of these locations, Punta Gorda, at the midpoint of the coastal promenade which connects the neighborhood of La Isleta with the rest of the city. At the same time, this location exemplifies a beautiful natural landscape within the urban context of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The area is particularly favorable for the project function like a joint between the neighborhood with both the landscape and the city. The proposal for working within this space is based on three main premises: the use of the section as an element of relationship between the sea, public space and buildings, the requalification of free public space, and the generation of new activities that complement the area at present.
Existing topography of the project area is
divided into two different levels, in which the building alters the volume of
the free space that is defined by the surrounding buildings. The transformation
of the section is finalized by the emergence of a series of shapes on the
ground plane, which are imposed on the free space as towers and other
constructions that are immersed in the ground plane, generating perforations.
This set of voluminous shapes builds a central space that serves as an agora.
Regarding its usage, the building incorporates a multifunctional approach,
hosting a central space that includes all internal activities and relationships
in the building, as well as a library, a restaurant, a nursery space, and a
neighborhood association.

Landscape and urban waste
Landscape and urban waste
Juan Ramírez Guedes
No doubt that is an increasingly widespread agreement that develops around the need to think and act in the contemporary city on the horizon, sustainability

This phenomenon , together with the above, the crisis represents the heart of the city, largely devoid of kit, reforms and adjustments in line with the modernization that would allow them to take in response to new needs of urban life .
