El acto de plantear una revisión sobre un determinado lenguaje artístico y en un territorio geográfico concreto ya suscita cierta sospecha. Esta exposición pretende realizar una revisión de los últimos cuarenta años de creación videográfica dentro del estado español. Por ello, cuando hablamos de revisar queremos atender a la doble acepción de esta palabra: «Ver con atención y cuidado» y «Someter algo a nuevo examen». El simple impulso de querer revisar la historia, no solo nos introduce en una noción que ha sido reclamada como tarea necesaria del nuevo siglo que empieza, en relación a la reconsideración de métodos utilizados, sino también por la omisión que se ha cometido en relación a algunos aspectos.

The act of providing an overview of a given artistic idiom within a defined geographic context might immediately elicit some doubts. This exhibition aims to present an overview or a survey of the video art that has been produced in Spain over the past forty years. When using the words “overview” or “survey” there are of course other meanings we might have in English. In Spanish, however, the word “revisión” implies both a review and a revision, and therefore the act of either “looking something over with care and attention” or “submitting it to a fresh or renewed examination” or even providing corrections. The simple impulse one might have to review or revise history, for example, not only implies a task that may seem necessary given our historical standpoint in this young century—at least in terms of reconsidering the methods that have been previously employed—but also with regard to “reviewing” some of the omissions that have been made along the way.
